Rachel Roy Fashion Show at Macy's Lenox Mall + 5 Questions for RR

The energy level was high today, as New York based fashion designer, Rachel Roy, was in town  at Macy's department store at Lenox Mall-Atlanta, GA! She made an appearance in conjunction with an informal fashion show for the Rachel Rachel Roy Collection exclusively for Macy's. There were hundreds of people in attendance who patiently waited along black velvet ropes. The crowds grooved to the club like sounds of DJ Heather B, sipped on pink lemonade with fresh mint and noshed on appetizers such as grilled pear and brie sandwiches. As models twisted and turned on the runway, Ms. Roy kindly and graciously greeted everyone in line to meet her. She also posed for pictures and signed autographs, even signing her name on the label of garments purchased during the event!

Talk about vision and creativity! (Pictured left) Alicia Pritchett of Atlanta is a wearing a Rachel Rachel Roy raincoat that she converted/transformed into a short sleeve dress!

I had a chance to briefly interview Ms. Roy and ask her a few questions. She was very kind to take a moment with me.

AFC: Do you have any advice for someone wanting a career in fashion?
RR: Kids that are school today should learn all sides of the industry and learn the balance, whether it's sketching or running a business.  They can also learn a lot by interning, doing it for as long as possible.

AFC: Do you have a favorite season of the year that you like to design for?
RR: As each season approaches, I am excited about each new collection!

AFC: What is your perception of the Atlantan woman as compared to a New York/East Coast woman when it comes to fashion?
RR: I like southern women, they are very friendly and have a genuine openness.  But, no matter where you are(she visited Africa a few months ago), women have the same needs and wants.  When it comes to fashion, they want to look good and wear clothes that makes them feel good too!

AFC:What are the top fashion trends you see for late 2010, early 2011?
RR: For winter, I see pants with prints and shapes expanding from the harem look, more tapered at the ankle and modern.

AFC: What is a misconception people have about fashion designers?
RR: A lot my friends are designers, who are really good people.  We really aren't aware of how we are perceived but we all agree if fashion isn't making a woman feel good then it's no good.

I think Rachel Roy is absolutely stunning and so nice! I really like her styling as a clothing designer too, she is one of my favorites.  She is reminiscent of a late 80's Donna Karan with the flattering draped fabrics and soft lines, yet coupled with vibrant colors and detail that makes her line so fresh and current.  Rachel Roy's clothing appeals to all sizes, body types, and price points. It begins with Macy's and leads to a higher end collection, Rachel Roy New York,  featured at department stores like Neiman Marcus. It was a pleasure to meet her and I'm excited about her winter 2010 collection! Kudos to Ms. Roy, Elizabeth Margo-Media Relations Manager for Macy's, Atlantan Magazine and everyone else for hosting/assisting with such a sophisticated, organized and professional event!
